Maryborough's once thriving wharves are long gone and in their place is an exceptional heritage precinct called Portside - with sensational parklands, museums, restuarants, art gallery, historic pubs, steam train rides and river cruises.

At one end of Portside is the magnificent Brolga Theatre, a world class venue, host to national and international artists. Book ending the precinct is the historic marina. Two magnificent riverside parklands - Queens Park botanical gardens and the Mary River Parklands - connect the Brolga Theatre to the marina and provide a natural avenue into the stunning colonial streetscapes of Wharf and Richmond Streets.

Maryborough is unashamedly proud of its heritage - and rightly so. Situated on the Mary River, Maryborough was first settled in 1847 and once was the rival for the state capital. It is the city where the first Queensland steam train was made, the first hospital outside of Brisbane was opened, and has the state's oldest operating Post Office. You could even say is is the place where Disney's most famous musical starring Julie Andrews had its early beginnings. P.L. Travers author of Mary Poppins, was born in Maryborough and the city embraces this unique connection in a number of ways including a staue in her honour.
