 River Heads, located at North Head the mouth of the Mary and Susan rivers has two boat ramps and is the departure point for the Kingfisher Bay and Wanggoolba Creek vehicle ferries to Fraser Island. Rocky outcrops and ledges in these waters are home to many bream, particularly in winter. Other commonly caught fish include flathead, javelin fish, mulloway, threadfin salmon and barramundi. On the opposite bank at South Head, a series of rocky outcrops generally provides good fishing.The Mary and Susan Rivers are popular fishing locations. The Susan is a labyrinth of mangrove creeks, sandbanks, rock bars and deep holes. This river system is almost completely unmarked by navigation beacons and care should be taken when boating there. Threadfin salmon are a popular target and one of the harder fighting of the fish found in the rivers. Javelin fish can be caught over gravel bottom or areas where there is a steep bank. Bread-and-butter species such as flathead, whiting and bream are all likely to be encountered when fishing the Susan, especially if using live nippers for bait.
